• Store them correctly – read Cellaring Wisdom .
• Know when to open them – use quality wine cellar software
• Know where they are – tag your wine.
• Remember when they have been opened – un-tag your wine.
Every Vinoté tag carries a unique number replicated as a barcode. The everlasting tags are supplied in lots of 250 and are presented in numeric order. Once the first number is entered, your wine cellar software automatically anticipates the next number to be used.
Every bottle carries an easy to find tag which finally serves as a reminder that the wine has been opened.

Identify your wine locations
Within your wine software, name your bins or blocks of racking as locations (or as separate “racks” in programs such as Uncorked), with each location holding between 40 and 100 bottles.
Cellar racking is often made up in units 8 or 10 bottles wide and each of these units may be identified as a single location. In wine cabinets each rack level may be identified as a location.
Identifying the exact location of every bottle can cause problems and be an unnecessary effort. Computer lack logic and when you inadvertently move a wine from one cell to another, as you will, your wine software will loose it forever.
Place your wines randomly
Let your wine software do the collating.
Trying to store your wines in tag numeric order, or in groupings of like wines, will waste valuable storage space.
Reduce the search area
You can halve the search area for a tag number by placing whites at the top of each location and reds at the bottom.
Finding your selected wine with Wine Software
• From your wine software, or the cellar list, choose the wines you wish to draw from your cellar.
• For these selected wines, note the last three digits of each tag number, the location and the colour of the wine.
• Go to the location (bin or rack column), look in the appropriate area (red or white) and find the matching 3 digit number in less than 20 seconds.
Maintaining an accurate inventory
• Ensure that every wine entering your cellar is tagged and catalogued in the wine software. Even casual drinking wines will be treated better by you, if they are tagged, recorded and then selected for each occasion.
• Do not remove a tag from any bottle until you open it; allowing unopened wines to be returned to the cellar still fully identified.
• Store removed tags in an easily accessible place. At a sober moment, record their removal from the cellar by either typing in the tag number or scanning the tag barcode.
Provided these three rules are obeyed, your wine inventory will remain accurate forever.
You will trust your cellar list, derive full pleasure from your wine software and make every good wine taste great.
